Marlene Dumas has explored a wide arrange of human anatomy mostly revolving around death, life and sex. For example in this painting she represents a newspaper ad in France that showed a woman being held by two men standing next to her. she is also completely naked and the newspaper puts censor blocks on her privates. This can be discussed as re-contextualize because she is taking it directly from a newspaper ad that had already existed. Marlene Dumas can also be accused of using appropriation for this picture as well. She repainted an existing artwork of picture and made it her own by distorting a few of her features. To the viewer this could be a quite interesting piece of art considering that she is questioning the identity of the woman and how they are viewed upon. In this form we could find the viewers gazing and trying to depict the meaning of the painting. Therefore we can say that paintings made by Marlene Dumas are postmodern and contemporary because they are answers the questions that are not easy to answer in our world today.
